How to Connect Your MotorCheck Trade Account to Vehiso

If you already hold a MotorCheck trade account, connecting it to Vehiso takes about two minutes and you only do it once for the whole dealership. This guide covers what you need first, the four setup steps, running your first check, and what to do when something does not go to plan.

Before you start

You need a MotorCheck trade account with API access. This is the part people get stuck on, so it is worth being clear. The integration runs on your own account, not on ours. We do not resell checks and we do not issue credentials. If you do not have a MotorCheck trade account yet, open one with MotorCheck first, and ask them for API access when you do.

You need administrator access in Vehiso. The connection is set up once at dealership level rather than per user, so it sits behind an administrator login. Once it is connected, everybody in the dealership can run checks. They do not each need their own credentials.

You need a paid Vehiso plan. The integration comes with every paid plan, and Vehiso charges nothing per check on any of them. It is not available on the free plan, though the seven-day trial will let you set it up and try it.

It is UK only. MotorCheck also operate in Ireland, but the Irish service does not carry the three report products this integration uses, so an Irish dealership would need a UK trade account.

Step 1: Get your API credentials from MotorCheck

Contact MotorCheck and ask for the API credentials on your trade account. Depending on how your account was set up, these may already exist, or they may need enabling.

While you are talking to them, confirm which of the three report products are enabled on your account: history, specification and condition alert. Each is a separate product on a separate charge, and Vehiso can only offer you the ones your own account is set up for. If a check type is missing when you get to step 3, this is almost always why.

It is also the right moment to confirm your per-check rates, since those are between you and MotorCheck. Vehiso adds no margin to them.

Step 2: Enter them in Vehiso, once

In Vehiso, go to Administration, then Stock Feeds and Integrations, and find the MotorCheck card.

Enter the credentials MotorCheck gave you and save. They are stored encrypted, and they are not visible to your staff afterwards. An administrator does this for the whole dealership, so you are not asking every member of the sales team to hold a set of API keys.

That is the entire setup. There is nothing to install, no callback URL to configure and nothing to verify on MotorCheck's side.

Step 3: Run your first check

There are two ways in, and the second is the one you will use day to day.

From Tools. Go to Tools, then MotorCheck, type a registration, and pick which of the three reports you want. This is the route for a car you do not have in stock yet: something you are bidding on, or a part exchange a customer has just mentioned on the phone.

From a car in stock. Open the vehicle, go to its Vehicle Checks tab and start the check from there. You do not type a registration at all, which removes the single most common cause of a wasted check: a transposed character on a plate returning a perfectly clean report for somebody else's car.

Either way, you choose one report type per check, because each one is a separate MotorCheck product with its own charge. A rough rule: history before you commit money, condition alert before the car joins the forecourt, specification when you are building the listing.

Step 4: Read it, file it, download it

The report comes back on screen, laid out in sections to be read rather than scrolled past.

Where the registration matches one vehicle in your stock, the report files itself against that car and appears on its Vehicle Checks tab, next to the photos, the pricing and the paperwork. Where two records in your stock share the same registration, Vehiso asks which one the report belongs to and files it with one click rather than guessing.

Every report downloads as a PDF. Where MotorCheck provide their own document for that report type, that is what you get. Where they do not, Vehiso renders the stored report as a PDF on our letterhead so there is always something to send, print or attach.

Vehiso also keeps a record of every check that has been run, by whom and when, so the trail exists even when the individual reports are not what you are looking for.

What happens to your reports later

Two things worth knowing, because they are the opposite of what dealers usually expect from software.

Deleting the vehicle keeps the reports. You paid for those checks. They do not disappear because the car sold six months ago and somebody tidied up the stock list. The questions that need a check report tend to arrive after the sale, not before it.

Disconnecting MotorCheck keeps them too. If you change provider, close the account or just unhook the integration, the reports you already paid for stay downloadable in Vehiso.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid credentials" or the connection will not save. Nine times out of ten the credentials are account login details rather than API credentials. Go back to MotorCheck and ask specifically for API access on the trade account.

A report type is missing or greyed out. That product is not enabled on your MotorCheck account. Vehiso only shows what your account can run. MotorCheck can enable it.

The check ran but did not attach to a car. Either the registration does not match a vehicle in your stock, which is expected when you are checking something you have not bought yet, or two records share that registration and Vehiso is waiting for you to pick one. The report is still stored and still downloadable either way.

A check failed and you are not sure whether you were charged. Check the record of runs in Vehiso for what was attempted and when, then raise it with MotorCheck, since billing sits entirely on their side.

Nothing appears on your website. That is by design. The integration is back-office tooling. Nothing is published to your dealership website and no badge appears on a listing.

Where to go next

Not on Vehiso yet? The dealer management system is included on every plan, including the free one. This integration needs a paid plan, and there is a seven-day trial if you want to set it up first.
