Every dealer website is built around the same core sections, and for good reason. A search box. Stock listings. Selling points. Contact details. Those are the parts that sell cars, and they earn their place on every site we build.
But no two dealerships are the same, and the requests that come in prove it. One dealer wants to point people at their eBay shop. One is running a part-exchange promotion for the next six weeks. One wants to explain their warranty properly, because the two lines it gets on the standard page do not do it justice. One has been family-run since 1994 and would quite like people to know.
Until now, every one of those meant the same thing: a request, a queue, and a wait. Sometimes a change request charge, depending on who built your site.
Content blocks remove that step. If you can write an email, you can add a section to your website.
What a content block is
A content block is a section of your website that you add yourself. Text, images and buttons, placed where you want them, on the page itself.
There is no code involved, no developer to brief, and no waiting. You open your site in edit mode, click where you want the new section, choose a layout, and start typing.
And the part that matters most, which we will come back to: it automatically takes on the look of whatever design your site is using.
How it works, in three steps
1. Choose where it goes. Open your site in edit mode and you will see an Add content block button sitting between each of your existing sections. Click the one where you want the new content to appear. That is the whole of the positioning decision.
2. Choose a layout. Four options: a single panel, or a row of two, three or four cards. Each one is shown as a small diagram, so you are making a visual choice rather than a technical one. Pick the shape that suits what you want to say.
3. Fill it in. Click any part of the block to edit it. The heading, the wording, the image, the button and where it links to. It all happens on the page itself, so there is no guessing how it will turn out. What you are editing is what visitors will see.
Changes save together when you are ready. Nothing goes live until you say so.
What can go in one
Each block can carry:
- A heading, as the section title
- Body text, a short paragraph
- A button, with your wording and your link
- A background image, sitting behind the whole section
- Images inside each card, on the multi-card layouts
The multi-card layouts give every card its own heading, text, image and button. So a three-card block can carry three separate messages side by side, which is the shape most dealers reach for first.
Where blocks can go
Blocks slot in between the sections you already recognise on your home page:
- After the search area at the top
- After the showcase text and image
- After the browse-by-brand section
- After the latest arrivals
- After the selling points
Once a block exists you can move it up and down, hide it temporarily without deleting it, or remove it entirely. There is no limit on how many you add, or how many go in any one position.
Content blocks are built for the home page first. The same tools are designed to open up across the rest of the site, and that is the direction of travel.
Why they always look right
This is the part worth dwelling on, because it is what separates content blocks from a generic page builder.
Vehiso websites run on a range of different designs, and each one has its own personality. How rounded the corners are. How heavy the borders sit. Whether cards cast a shadow. Which typeface is used. And your own brand colour running through the buttons and links.
A content block picks all of that up automatically. Put one next to a section that came with the design and they match. Same corners, same borders, same shadows, same fonts, same brand colour on the button.
The practical upshot is that you can add your own content without it looking added on. No mismatched boxes. No clashing button that is nearly your brand colour but not quite. No section that visibly arrived later.
And if you ever switch to a different design, your content blocks come with you and take on the new look. You do not rebuild them.
Two ways to manage them
On the site itself, for writing and design. Click straight onto a heading, a paragraph or an image and change it in place.
From the admin panel, for structure. There is a single list of your whole home page showing every built-in section and every block between them. That is where you go to reorder things, rename a block, hide one, or change its layout without hunting around the page. Each row links straight through to that block on the live site for editing.
The two work together. Structure in one, wording and imagery in the other. In practice you will spend most of your time on the site itself and drop into the admin list when you want to rearrange.
What dealers are putting in them
A few that come up repeatedly, to get you started:
- Where else to find you. eBay, Motors, Auto Trader, CarGurus, Facebook Marketplace. A row of cards, each linking to your shopfront on that channel.
- Why buy from us. Three cards covering warranty, part exchange and delivery.
- Finance explained. A short paragraph and a button through to your application form.
- Meet the team. Faces and names. On a used-car site this does more work than people expect.
- Selling your car? A promotion with a clear next step.
- Our history. Family-run since the nineties, and why that matters to a buyer.
- Seasonal offers. Added when you need them, hidden the rest of the year rather than deleted.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need any technical knowledge?
No. You click where you want the block, pick a layout from four diagrams, and type. There is no code, no HTML, and nothing to configure.
Will it match my website’s design?
Yes, automatically. Blocks take on the corners, borders, shadows, fonts and brand colour of whichever design you are using. That happens without you setting anything.
What if I change my website design later?
Your content blocks come with you and take on the new design’s look. You do not have to rebuild them.
Can I hide a block without deleting it?
Yes. Hiding is separate from deleting, which is what you want for seasonal offers and promotions that come back round.
How many blocks can I add?
As many as you like, in any of the available positions. Common sense applies. A home page with twelve extra sections is a home page nobody scrolls to the bottom of.
Which pages can have content blocks?
The home page, for now. The same tools are designed to extend to the rest of the site.
Does anything go live before I am ready?
No. Changes are saved together when you choose to save them.
Getting started
Open your site in edit mode, find the gap between two sections where you have always wished there was something, and click Add content block. Start with one. Write the section you have been meaning to ask us for.
If you are looking at Vehiso for the first time, content blocks sit alongside the rest of the website editor in every dealer website we build.
